Patient - Abdominoplasty

Before

This patient had undergone bowel surgery in the past and developed a large bulge in the lower abdomen that was both unsightly and uncomfortable. Rather than do a typical vertical incision in the midline to repair this, I used a horizontal, tummy tuck incision for the surgery. I repaired the hernia and reinforced the repair with a relatively new material, Seri. Seri is a silk mesh which is very strong. Tissues grow into it and over the course of a year or so, it slowly dissolves away and is replaced by thick scar tissue to maintain the repair.

She is shown before her surgery. The bulging and abdominal wall weakness are clearly seen.

The side view shows the massive bulging to advantage.

After

She is now three months out from surgery. She is back to full activities, has no discomfort and can wear her clothes more comfortably. Her scars are still pink but this will fade in another few months. I did not feel she needed to return after this visit.

The improvement is clearly seen.

It is even better appreciated on a side view.
