Patient - Abdominoplasty

Before
This lady had undergone a prior gallbladder removal which left her with a hernia in the upper abdomen. Her surgeon attempted to fix this with mesh but the hernia recurred. When I saw her, she had both the hernia and a siginificant separation of her abdominal muscles, called a diastasis. She was concerned that these might get worse in time. Although she exercised regularly, she could not make a dent in her abdominal bulge.
After
I performed an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) on her with a higher-than-usual incision, because of the hernia. I was able to repair the diastasis and hernia with sutures and then reinforced the entire area with SERI. This is a mesh made of silk. I breaks down over about one year, but leaves in its place a thick layer of collagen scar tissue that maintains the strength of the repair. She did beautifully and was very happy with her result.
