Before

As I wind down my practice in anticipation of retirement in September, some might ask why I still post photographs. I guess I am enjoying these last few months and want to share a few finall successes. I wish I could say every surgery I perform is a success, but that is not the nature of surgery, and certainly not of cosmetic surgery. You want to get good results most of the time but now and again there is that patient who has such exceptional outcome that you can't help but want to share it. This lady was one of these. 

She came to see me after losing 80 lbs by changing her diet and exercising. Despite this, she was still a bit overweight, but not by much. Her BMI was 26-27. She had so much loose skin that  nothing was going to help short of an abdominoplasty (tummuy tuck) and I recommended a vertical skin excision as well as the usual "bikini" incision to remove as much skin as possible.

She is 5 months postop. I performed an extended abdominoplasty along with tightening of her abdominal muscles. The result speaks for itself. Her scars will improve further as they fade. It you want to get really critical, there is still a small bulge below the belly button that could be flattened with some liposuction. I do not like to perform lipo in this area with a large tummy tuck because of the danger of critically damaging blood supply to the skin incision and the result might be a breakdown of the incision. She is delighted and does not wish for anything more.
