Before
This patient came in seeking more breast fullness and to feel better proportioned. She said she wore a padded 32 C cup but looks more like an A cup to me. This just underscores how irrelevant I feel cup size is for describing breast size. After a thorough discussion of implants, she decided to go with saline implant breast augmentation.
After
Because of her narrow chest and small size, I place a pair of Mentor high profile round, smooth saline implants under the muscle through a small incision under her breasts. The implants were 230 cc and I filled them to 250 cc. As expected, her breasts were intially quite tight. By two months, I felt she was firmer than ideal and started her on Doxcycline and Singluaire, two drugs that have shown some success in softening breasts with implants. We are not sure why they seem to work in some patients. The right breast softened nicely but the left remained firm. Seven months after this surgery, I took her back and released the left implant pocket. At request, I exchange both implants for a pair of Mentor round, smooth, moderate profile implants with a volume of 275 cc. I filled these to 300 cc. I kept her on the doxycycline and singuilair. She has done beautifully and both breasts have remained soft now for over one year. Her bra size now is a legitimate 32 C cup.
