Before
This young woman desired more fullness to her breasts after nursing a child. Her bra size was an A/B cup depending on the bra. She presented some challenges in that her breast dimensions were quite small and her breasts were far apart with a wide gap between them. I performed a breast augmentation on her with 375 cc Mentor smooth, round saline implants placed in a pocket half under the muscle in the upper half of the breast and half under the breast itself in the lower half. This dual-plane position is increasingly popular because it smooths out the breast in the upper half, where ripples and wrinkles can sometimes be seen, yet avoids much of the traction and distortion see with under-the-muscle implants when the woman tightens her chest muscles.
After
She is shown six months after surgery. She has normal sensitivity in the nipples. Her breasts show an exceptional result with wonderful cleavage. Both feel very soft and natural. She has not re-sized herself into new bras. I would judge her to be a full C to a small D depending on the bra. I have nothing against gel implants and use them often, but for very young patients in their early 20's, who are good candidates, I love the look and feel of saline. Someday, when these are inevitably removed or exchanged, patients can switch to gels or whatever new and improved implant is out there.
