Before
It is not often I get a chance to see a breast augmentation patient 15 years or more after their surgery. Most never return even though I recommend periodic checkups of all implant patients. I just think it is a good idea with any implant. The lady had her breasts augmented in 2009 with 375 cc Mentor smooth, round saline implants. She returned to see me because she wondered if her implants needed to be replaced due to their age and thought she might want to go a little larger. Her bra size is a 34 D cup. She has no problems with her breasts or her implants and remains very happy with them. Her mammograms have been fine.
After
I discussed her situation and recommended against any unnecessary surgery. Her result is so exceptionally nice that I would be reluctant to risk this to do more surgery without good cause. I cautioned against going larger because she might cross the line to having problems associated with large breasts: chronic back, neck, and should pain. I also explained that, contrary to what some patients are told, even by some plastic surgeons, breast implants do not need to be replaced simply because they have reached some anniversary of 10, 15, or more years. I have patients who are doing well past twenty years after their surgery. So long as their breasts look and feel good, and they are happy with them, patients can leave them undisturbed indefinitely. She was happy to do just that.
