It isn't often that I get an eight-year follow up on a breast augmentation. Young women are the most prone to miss appointments and a surprising number never retrurn after their first visit or two, if they are doing well. This young woman came in for a visit one month after her surgery and never returned for another. She said she was not aware she needed to. She returned eight years later, after two pregnancies for a check up of her breasts and implants. I never charge for such visits so as not to discourage patients from seeking follow up. She was not having any problems with her breasts, was able to nurse one of her children, and remained happy with her breasts. Her original bra size was a 32 A cup and she is now a 34 C cup. She has normal sensation in both breasts. She did ask, as many patients do, if she had to replace her implants when they reach a certain age. 

She presented some very real challenges to breast augmentation with breasts that were very small, widely spaced areolae that were very much to the side, and narrow bases to her breasts.

These photos were taken eight years and two pregnancies later. They do not do justice to how nice her breasts look and feel, which are both almost perfectly natural. Her implants feel fine. Given all the potential things that can happen with augmented breasts, and her unique challenges, this is an exceptionally result. I told her that she does not have to replace them just because they have reached a certain age if she is still doing this well and happy with them. Odds are that she will need to replace them some day, but this may not be for decadees. I told her what I tell all of my implant patients: their best breast friend is a good quality bra that provides excellent support and they should not go without a bra any more than necessary since time and gravity are not friendly to breasts, augmented or not.
