Before
This lady had a strong family history of breast cancer and tested positive for the breast cancer gene mutation, making her risk of developing breast cancer extremely high. She was a good candidate for a prophylactic mastectomy (preventitive removal of the breasts) with reconstruction. Because of the technically demanding nature of the surgery, I performed both the breast removal and reconstruction. The first stage was removal of the breast tissue combined with a breast lift and salvage of her natural nipple/areolae as greafts and insertion of tissue expanders. Once she was successfully expanded, I took her back for the final surgery a few months later to replace the expanders with a pair of gel implants.
After
She is shown one month after her expanders were replaced with a pair of 560 cc Allergan Natrelle Inspira Style SSF smooth, round silicone gel implants. The time frame from her first surgery to her final office visit was seven months. She said that she likes the way her reconstructed breasts look and feel better than her natural breasts! The nice thing about this particular reconstruction is that the breasts look more like breasts that have been lifted or reduced rather than totally reconstructed.
