Before
This lady came to see me years after a failed breast reconstruction following removal of both breasts for breast cancer. Her skin was quite tight. I proposed a staged reconstruction with initial placement of tissue expanders to create a pocket for a pair of gel breast implants and later nipple/areola reconstruction. She did very well, however, did not have much definition of the crease under her breasts, a not uncommon problem in such reconstructions.
After
It took her four years to decide to come back to finish the reconstruction. In addition to the nipple/areola reconstruction, I offered to try to revise the lower half of her breasts to get a more natural appearance to them and she accepted. Her nipple areola complexes were reconstructed using a very nice little flap, called a skate flap from its shape, and a skin graft taken from her upper, inner thigh, where the skin is a little darker naturally. She went on to do very well and we were both pleased with the result. Her implants are 650 cc Mentor MemoryGel Xtra smooth, round implants. Her breasts are wonderfully soft.
