Before

39 year old woman with invasive ductal ca of the right breast. She elected to have bilateral mastectomies to maximally reduce her future cancer risk. Bilat total mastectomies (removal of breast tissue and nipples) were done by her general surgeon and I immediately placed tissue expanders. Expansion took just under 5 months. The expanders were eventually replaced with Mentor 550 cc smooth, round, moderate profile 'plus' gel implants. Nipple/areola reconstruction was done almost exactly 6 months after her mastectomies.

Her final result was excellent. She is very soft, the implants can be felt only minimally with almost no visible rippling. I offered her an additional minor procedure to achieve more projection of the nipples but she was happy with this result.

The patient returned to see me for a routine check up 3 1/2 years later. She was having no problems. She showed a nice, stable result with only some minor contour changes. Her breasts have remained soft. The scars are slightly more visible than ideal as they do not have any pigment in them.
