Patient - Breast Reduction

Before
This young lady had the typical symptoms of overly large, heavy breasts: back, neck, and shoulder pain; rashes under her breasts, and occipital headaches, going back to high school. Chiropractice treatment and over-the-counter pain and anti-inflammatory medications did not help. Her bra size was a 38 D/DD cup. She could not find comfortable bras. Because of her height and weight, insurance companies would have required removal of 850 grams (1 lb, 14 oz.) from each breast to qualify the surgery as medically necessary. I did not feel that I could do this. She elected to proceed on her own, paying for this herself. We performed her surgery in our office ambulatory surgery center.
After
She is shown 6 months after her procedure, which was largely a breast lift (mastpexy) with a small reduction of about 250 grams ( about 9 oz.) from each breast. She has obtained complete relief of all of her presenting complaints. She does not know her new cup size because now she just wears elastic sports bras, not fitted support bras. Her scars are very fine and the faint pink color will fade to white over the next few months. She has normal sensitivity in her nipples. Time will tell if she will be able to nurse children; it may be possible with this procedure.
