This lady had all the usual symptoms of overly heavy breasts: back, neck, and shoulder pain, painful grooves in her shoulders, rashes under her breasts, and headaches in the back of her head. She tried different bras and over-the-counter medications for pain without relief. She sought a breast reduction. She had no clue what her bra size was because it was all over the place G, H??

She clearly met the criteria for a medically necessary breast reduction and her insurance covered the surgery. I removed 890 grams from the left breast and 933 grams from the right (about 2 lb per breast). Because of her large size, I performed the surgery by removing the nipple/areola, reducing the breasts, then replacing the nipple/areola complexes as grafts. This has been 100% successful in my practice. The only downside is loss of feeling in that area. For these patients, this is a worthwhile tradeoff. A few patients have told me they regained some sensation over time. Her postoperative bra size is D/DD cup and all of her original symptoms went away.
