Patient - Breast Reduction

Before
This young woman had 38 DDD cup breasts and for years suffered chronic pain in her entire back, shoulders, and neck. She also had numbness and tingling down her arms and headaches in the back of her head. All of these can be caused by overly large, heavy breasts. She tried various non-surgical measures, including over-the-counter pain meds, different bras, heating pads, and cold compresses, without relief. I offered her a breast reduction. Because of her young age and the fact that she had never had children, I explained that the surgery might prevent her from nursing children in the future. She did not hesitate to move forward. The surgery was approved by her insurance, as most breast reductions are.
After
I performed her reduction using a very common, standard technique. I removed 471 grams (just over 1 lb) from the left breast and 396 grams (14 oz) from the right breast. Her postoperative bra size is a C cup. Her presenting symptoms resolved almost entirely. From an aesthetic standpoint, her new breasts look much nicer despite the scars. I would grade her aesthetic appearance as nice but with some small issues. Her scars are not as fine as I would like, I would have liked to see her a bit tighter and more "perky". There are many variables that affect the look of breasts after a reduction and some of those are not possible to fully control.
