Before

It is not often you get a 26 year follow up on a patient. This lady came to see me when she was 19 years old for a breast reduction. She had lovely, but full, breasts and did not like that they sagged. I was hesitant to offer her surgery because of her young age, the extensive scars this would leave and the possible loss of feeling and ability to nurse children. She was insistent and I finally agreed. She did very well and I thought she had a very nice result. She returned to see me 26 years later to see if she needed anything more done to her breasts because she heard I might be retiring soon. She has had two children and did not try to nurse the first one but said that she was able to breast feed the second one briefly. 

After

Hers was a very small reduction. I took 212 grams (7.5 ounces) from the left breast and 240 grams (8.5 ounces) from the right. Her bra size dropped from a 32 D/DD to a 32 C cup. She was very happy. Her nipple sensitivity was fully preserved. I took her final postoperative photos when she was 6 months out from surgery. Because of her young age, her scars were still quite red and had not settled fully. 26 years later, her breasts still look lovely and her scars are very faint. I told her that her breasts are perfect and that she does not have to do anything to them. 

As you can see, her scars are still quite bright red because they have not fully matured. This can take between 6 months and a year in some patients, especially younger ones. Her shape and symmetry are excellent. 

Here she is 26 years later. Even I am amazed at how well she has done despite having such extensive surgery and two children after that. There really is no surgery that I would propose for fear of messing her lovely breasts.
