Before
This gentleman underwent cataract surgery to both eyes. Soon after, he noted drooping of his left eyebrow and impairment in his upper visual field. A drooping eyebrow, or ptosis, can result from a number of causes such as a stroke, Bell's palsy, or a nerve injury of some sort. In his case, there was not good explanation. I recommended a brow lift using an incision along the upper margin of the eyebrow. This avoids major surgery, puts the scar in an inconspicuous location, and corrects the problem nicely. When visual impairment can be documented, as in this case, insurance will cover the surgery.
After
He is shown 4 months after surgery. The eyebrows are now in a symmetrical position. The visual deficit has been corrected. The scar is hard to see already and will fade further as it is still faintly pink.
