Rick Bosshardt, M.D., FACS
Dr.
Bosshardt received his bachelor's degree in science from the University
of Miami, magna cum laude, then attended the university's school of
medicine and graduated in 1978 in the top third of his class. His
surgical training was done at the United States Naval Hospital in
Oakland, California. It was briefly interrupted from 1979-80 when he
served as medical officer aboard the USS Wabash and was deployed to the
Western Pacific
with an aircraft carrier task force. He was involved in
the rescue of Vietnamese boat people and was part of operations to end
the Iranian hostage crisis in 1980. The USS Wabash received several
decorations for this deployment, including the Meritorious Unit
Commendation. Dr. Bosshardt completed his surgical training at Oakland
and then served as general surgeon at the United States Naval Hospital
in Okinawa, Japan. During this time, he obtained his board certification
from the American Board of Surgery and applied for a position as a
resident training in plastic surgery under world-renowned plastic
surgeon, D. Ralph Millard, Jr., M.D., at the University of Miami,
Jackson Memorial Medical center in Miami, Florida. He was honorably
discharged from the Navy with the rank of Commander. After completing
his plastic surgery training in 1989, Dr. Bosshardt became the first
plastic surgeon to practice full time in Lake County. He obtained
certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1991. Since
starting in private practice, Dr. Bosshardt has participated regularly
in overseas medical missions to provide reconstructive surgery to
children with cleft lip and palate and other problems. His travels have
taken him to the Philippines, Guatemala, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, and
the West Bank. Dr. Bosshardt performs both cosmetic and reconstructive
plastic surgery in his practice, which has grown to two surgeons working
out of a modern facility that houses the only state licensed private
surgical suite in Central Florida dedicated exclusively to plastic
surgery. Dr. Bosshardt has special interests in breast surgery including
augmentation, reduction, and reconstruction after cancer surgery, skin
cancer reconstruction, and pediatric plastic surgery for congenital
deformities. The latter he does mainly on his overseas mission trips.
Although he takes pride in his accomplishments as a plastic surgeon, Dr.
Bosshardt's greatest pride is in his family: His wife, the former Sally
Greenlee, and his three children: Lindsey, Travis and Olivia. Lindsey
completed her masters degree in 2007 in social work and is now the
director of the Listening Center in Lancaster, SC, where she lives with
her husband, David Pace, a youth minister. Travis is studying culinary
arts at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, NC. Olivia completed
her freshman year this summer (2008) and is in the nursing program at
Samford University in Birmingham, AL, where she received a full,
presidential academic scholarship for four years. Dr. Bosshardt is a
avid reader and also enjoys writing. For over ten years, he has written
a column, House calls, which appears weekly in the Lake County and
Orange County editions of the Orlando Sentinel and deals with medical
issues. He enjoys running and has completed 5 marathons and a half
marathon. He particularly enjoys anything to do with the ocean-sailing,
swimming, snorkeling or diving. He has been a member of First Baptist
Church in Leesburg for over 18 years. His personal and professional
goals are to continually perfect his craft as a plastic surgeon and
include making Bosshardt & Marzek Plastic Surgery Associates the premier
practice for cosmetic and reconstructive surgery in Central Florida, if
not the state itself.
